Speaking at the regular meeting of the Competitiveness Council held in Brussels, Barbalov stated that the single market functions best when rules are clear, predictable, and applicable to all participants.

He emphasized that Bulgaria’s position is that member states should be regularly informed about the impact of new initiatives in various council formats on administrative requirements and adaptation periods.

Regarding the removal of obstacles in the Single Market, Barbalov said that Bulgaria supports the Heat Map initiative, considering the use of reliable information important, and added:

“Member states should be able to verify or correct data based on additional information. Our country supports work on the three initial priority obstacles and highlights the importance of clear delivery timelines, joint work, and regular monitoring of progress.”

Barbalov stated that increased cooperation across Europe, consumer information campaigns, and the sharing of best practices are needed, adding that national authorities operating in dynamic environments and with limited resources must strengthen their capacities.

Welcoming the establishment of the European Competitiveness Fund, Barbalov underlined the need for good coordination, fair distribution of resources, and consideration of specific national conditions.
