Ghebreyesus: Gaza cannot afford to lose more hospitals
Geneva, September 17 (Hibya) - World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced that an attack had been carried out on Al-Rantisi Hospital in Gaza, where 80 patients were present.
WHO Director-General Ghebreyesus said that an attack targeted Al-Rantisi Hospital in Gaza, which housed 80 patients. No casualties were reported, but the attack caused panic among patients and staff. He stated: "Serious damage was reported to the rooftop water tanks, electrical and communication systems, and some medical equipment."
He noted that 40 patients managed to escape to a safe location, while 40 others, including 4 children in intensive care and 8 newborns, remained inside.
"Al-Rantisi is the only specialized children’s hospital in the Gaza Strip, providing services in oncology, dialysis, respiratory care, and gastroenterology," Ghebreyesus emphasized.
He stressed that as the military intervention in Gaza intensifies, hospitals, healthcare workers, and patients urgently need protection. "Gaza cannot afford to lose more hospitals. Health should never be a target," Ghebreyesus declared.
