Ghebreyesus: We are actively supporting Ethiopia
Geneva, 14 November (Hibya) – World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced that Ethiopia has confirmed that the outbreak infecting at least nine people in the south of the country is Marburg virus disease.
Dr. Ghebreyesus stated that Ethiopia has confirmed that the outbreak affecting at least nine people is Marburg virus disease.
He praised the rapid and transparent response of Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health, as well as the efforts of the Ethiopian Public Health Institute and regional health authorities. “This swift action clearly demonstrates the country’s determination to bring the outbreak under control quickly,” he said.
Ghebreyesus emphasized that the WHO is actively supporting Ethiopia at national, regional, and headquarters levels in controlling the outbreak and treating infected individuals, and continues to support efforts to prevent possible cross-border spread.
