Lazzarini stated that the entry of Israeli security forces into UNRWA’s East Jerusalem compound yesterday, their takeover of the premises, and the removal of the UN flag to raise the Israeli flag instead, created a highly sensitive situation and a worrying precedent.

He emphasized that these actions clearly disregard the obligations set out in the UN Charter and the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations, undermining the integrity of the international legal order.

“This development constitutes a serious warning for the international community. It must not be forgotten that the situation facing UNRWA today may affect another international organization or diplomatic mission anywhere in the world tomorrow.”

Lazzarini added, “The increasing pressures and violations against international law are unacceptable; joint efforts to end them must be strengthened.”
