Newly opened bridge in China partially collapses
Stockholm, November 12 (Hibya) – A newly opened bridge in China’s southwestern Sichuan province partially collapsed, creating a massive cloud of dust.
Authorities said they had closed the 758-meter (2,486-foot) Hongqi Bridge on Monday after cracks appeared on nearby slopes and roads.
Officials added that conditions on the mountainside deteriorated on Tuesday afternoon, triggering landslides that caused part of the bridge to collapse.
No casualties were reported.
According to a social media post by the construction company Sichuan Road and Bridge Group, the bridge’s construction was completed earlier this year.
