Six people smuggling migrants from Türkiye to France and Germany arrested
Stockholm, 14 November (Hibya) – The German Federal Police, working closely with the French border police and supported by Europol and Eurojust, dismantled a criminal network believed to have smuggled around 900 people into Europe between 2021 and 2023.
According to Europol, the network is suspected of continuously facilitating migration from Türkiye through Serbia, Austria, Germany, and France. Investigators believe the criminal organization earned more than €4 million from these illegal activities.
Europol reports that the network operated with a hierarchical structure, assigning specific roles to members to ensure the success of the illegal operations. Investigators believe the gang hired more than 20 drivers to carry out the transfers. There are also reasonable suspicions linking the suspects to a smuggling incident on 13 July 2023 in Germany that resulted in the death of a migrant.
During the operations, six arrests were made — two in Germany and four in France — and 11 property searches were conducted: four in Germany and seven in France. Firearms, electronic devices, and cash were seized, and the suspects’ bank accounts were frozen.
