UN: Peace process in South Sudan must be put back on track
New York, November 12 (Hibya) – The United Nations (UN) Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, emphasized during his briefing to the UN Security Council on the situation in South Sudan that the peace process in the country must be revived.
Lacroix stated that the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) plays a critical role, noting: “There is an urgent need to put the peace process back on track.”
The UN official highlighted the importance of strengthening political commitments and advancing the dialogue process in South Sudan. He also called on all parties to show greater determination and cooperation to achieve lasting peace.
The UN Security Council session also addressed the security situation in South Sudan, the upcoming elections, and the deepening humanitarian crisis.
