UNRWA: Our service capacity in Gaza is unique
New York, 14 November (Hibya) – UNRWA Commissioner Philippe Lazzarini shared information about the agency’s service capacity in Gaza during his address to the Fourth Committee of the UN General Assembly.
Lazzarini stated that UNRWA, with its 12,000 staff, is the most trusted institution in the community and has the broadest service capacity in Gaza, adding: “UNRWA’s ability to deliver services in Gaza is unique.”
According to the statement, UNRWA provides 40% of all primary healthcare services in Gaza. The agency continues to support public health through immunization campaigns, nutrition screenings, water quality monitoring and pest control activities.
The water wells, desalination systems and waste management services operated by UNRWA reach hundreds of thousands of people. In education, the agency plays a major role, offering in-person education to more than 40,000 children and online learning to nearly 300,000.
Lazzarini underscored the importance of international support to sustain UNRWA’s humanitarian services in Gaza.
