WHO: 8,000 patients evacuated from Gaza
Geneva, November 12 (Hibya) – World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus expressed his appreciation for countries’ efforts to evacuate severely injured and sick children and adults from Gaza.
In a post on social media, Ghebreyesus stated that under the WHO’s medical evacuation program, approximately 8,000 patients — including 5,500 children — have been transferred outside Gaza for treatment over the past two years.
Thanking countries for their solidarity, he said that with the continuation of the ceasefire, the WHO is expanding its efforts to increase medical evacuations.
Ghebreyesus added that due to the severe damage to Gaza’s health infrastructure, 16,500 people, including about 4,000 children, are still awaiting evacuation.
The WHO Director-General called on countries to accept more patients and emphasized the need to open all evacuation routes to the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
