Meloni: We will fully uphold our responsibility for security
Rome, November 6 (Hibya) – Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated that ensuring the safety of Italians is a daily responsibility and that her government will fulfill this responsibility to the fullest.
Meloni said she had read claims from some left-wing representatives alleging that “this government has made no investment in security,” noting that while such claims may sound appealing, the figures show otherwise.
She explained that over the past three years, approximately 37,400 new personnel have been recruited into the police force, and an additional 31,500 hires are planned by 2027.
“We have allocated 1.5 billion euros for renewing contracts in the sector and signed those covering the past three years, which means an average gross monthly salary increase of 198 euros. We have implemented long-awaited investments, strengthened vehicles, infrastructure, and technology,” Meloni said.
She noted that the presence of security forces in sensitive areas had been increased: “In recent years, millions of inspections have been carried out; the state’s presence on the ground is now much more stable. The fight against organized crime speaks for itself: 108 fugitives captured, 278 major operations conducted, thousands arrested, assets worth 6.5 billion euros seized from criminal organizations, and more than 18,000 properties returned to the public.”
Meloni emphasized that the government is aware of the serious issues that concern citizens: “We are compensating for the consequences of decades of negligence and underestimation. Therefore, we have no intention of stepping back; on the contrary, we aim to do even more. The safety of Italians is a responsibility we must fulfill every day, and we will fulfill it to the end.”
