Cambodia and Thailand begin high-level talks in Malaysia
Stockholm, July 28 (Hibya) – It was reported that delegations from Cambodia and Thailand are meeting today in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, to discuss a ceasefire and peace.
In a statement released late Sunday by the U.S. State Department, it was stated that President Donald Trump and Rubio spoke with their counterparts in both countries and are closely monitoring the situation.
The statement read: “State Department officials are in Malaysia to assist in these peace efforts. Both President Trump and I are in contact with our counterparts in both countries and are closely following the developments. We want this conflict to end as soon as possible.”
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said the meeting was “jointly organized by the United States and with the participation of China.”
China, a close ally of Cambodia, had previously expressed concern over the conflict, stating it would “encourage peace talks” and “play a constructive role in easing tensions.”
Malaysia, the current chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), had called for an end to the conflicts.
