China: If the US continues its tariff number game, China will ignore it
Beijing, April 17 (Hibya) – A spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement to reporters that if the US continues to play the tariff number game, China will ignore it.
The spokesperson was responding to questions from reporters regarding claims that China is currently facing tariffs of up to 245%.
He said: “We have noted the relevant reports. As for how the 245% figure came about, you should ask the US. China has previously emphasized that the US's imposition of abnormally high tariffs on China has become a number game, with no real economic meaning, and it further reveals how the US uses tariffs as a tool and weapon for bullying and pressure.”
“There are no winners in tariff wars and trade wars. China does not want a war, but it is not afraid to fight. If the US continues its tariff number game, China will ignore it. If the US insists on seriously violating China’s rights and interests, China will resolutely strike back and fight to the end,” he said.
In a similar statement, a spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Commerce said: “China has noted that cumulative tariffs on some Chinese goods exported to the US have reached 245%. This fully exposes the irrationality of the US’s weaponization and instrumentalization of tariffs. China has previously made its position on the unilateral tariff increases clear on multiple occasions. China will ignore this meaningless tariff number game. However, if the US continues to seriously violate China’s rights and interests, China will respond firmly and fight to the end.”
