Fletcher: Significant progress made in humanitarian aid efforts in Gaza
New York, October 13 (Hibya) – United Nations (UN) Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief, Tom Fletcher, said ahead of the meetings in Sharm El-Sheikh that notable progress has been made in humanitarian aid operations in Gaza.
“Today I stand here at a moment of great hope and uncertainty for both Israelis and Palestinians. Our humanitarian operations in Gaza are rapidly expanding; yesterday we made tangible progress in this regard,” Fletcher said.
He noted that the UN and partner organizations are distributing hot meals and bread to hundreds of thousands of people in northern and southern Gaza, as well as delivering gas cylinders, tents, frozen meat, fresh fruit, flour, and medicines to the area.
Fletcher added that with the easing of movement and access restrictions, medical and emergency supplies have reached critical areas of need: “We have assessed roads with explosive hazards and supported displaced families in flood-prone areas with their winter preparations.”
