FSB says it thwarted a terrorist attack against Crimean Metropolitan Tikhon
Moscow, February 28 (Hibya) - The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced that a terrorist attack, allegedly planned by Kyiv against the Metropolitan of Simferopol and Crimea, Tikhon (Shevkunov), was prevented in Moscow.
"The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation thwarted a terrorist act planned by Ukrainian special services against the Metropolitan of Simferopol and Crimea, Tikhon (G. Shevkunov)," the statement read.
A Russian and a Ukrainian, allegedly recruited via Telegram by the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine's Ministry of Defense, were detained in Moscow.
The FSB stated: "In December 2024, a handmade explosive device was delivered to them at a secret location. The attack was planned to be carried out during Metropolitan Tikhon's stay in Moscow."
According to the FSB, the detained suspects claimed that the explosives were to be placed in the Sretensky Monastery.
After committing the crime, the terrorists planned to leave Russia using forged documents. During the raid, a handmade explosive device and two fake Ukrainian passports were seized.
