Guterres: I am concerned about the military escalation in El Fasher
New York, October 30 (Hibya) — United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he was deeply concerned about the recent military escalation in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, Sudan.
UN Secretary-General Guterres expressed deep concern over the recent military escalation in El Fasher, North Darfur.
He noted that for more than 18 months, El Fasher and surrounding areas in North Darfur have become the center of suffering for hundreds of thousands of civilians trapped under an increasingly tightened siege by the Rapid Support Forces. Guterres said, “I reiterate my call for an immediate end to the siege and hostilities, and for ensuring safe, rapid, and unimpeded humanitarian access and delivery to all civilians.”
Guterres urged the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces to take swift and concrete steps toward a negotiated solution.
