Yermak: Peace initiatives are being blocked by Russia
Kyiv, August 29 (Hibya) - Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak said that Ukraine welcomes all peace initiatives put forward by the United States, but each of them has been blocked by Russia.
Yermak announced that together with Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergiy Kyslytsya, he held a meeting in New York with US President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy, Steve Witkoff.
He stressed that their priority is to advance genuine diplomacy and ensure the implementation of all agreements reached at the Washington summit, adding that efforts are being coordinated.
Yermak said that Russia has done nothing to end the war and is clearly prolonging the hostilities:
"Ukraine supports the determination of President Trump and all partners to achieve a lasting peace as soon as possible. Ukraine welcomes all peace initiatives put forward by the United States. But unfortunately, each of them is being blocked by Russia."
He added that they are open to direct negotiations at the leaders’ level and ready to discuss the widest range of issues: "We believe that global pressure is necessary to ensure that Russia is truly ready to move toward peace and, in particular, to hold leaders’ meetings that are crucial for this purpose."
