Zelensky spoke with European Council President Costa
Kyiv, August 29 (Hibya) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a phone conversation with European Council President Antonio Costa to discuss the need to increase pressure on Russia and strengthen support for Ukraine.
Antonio Costa expressed his condolences to Ukrainians and all families who lost their loved ones in the Russian attack on Kyiv on the night of August 28. Zelensky reported that 25 people, including four children, were killed in the attack, and dozens were injured.
Zelensky stressed that the attack showed Russia’s intention to continue killing rather than taking steps toward peace, recalling that Ukraine had repeatedly expressed its readiness for a leaders-level meeting.
He noted that this issue had been raised particularly in talks with U.S. President Donald Trump and European partners, but that Russia had not shown any similar sign of readiness, emphasizing the need to increase pressure on the Russian Federation.
The leaders discussed the development of security guarantees. Zelensky stated that work continues to finalize all components.
Special attention was given to providing additional funding for drone production in Ukraine and for implementing the SAFE and PURL programs. Antonio Costa expressed his readiness to support efforts to enhance the effectiveness of these instruments.
