CENTCOM: Additional airstrikes carried out against military targets in Iran
Washington, June 28 (Hibya) – The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that additional airstrikes were carried out against multiple military targets in Iran following a drone attack on a commercial oil tanker near the Strait of Hormuz.
CENTCOM announced that, under the direction of U.S. President Donald Trump, additional airstrikes were conducted against multiple military targets in Iran on June 27.
According to the statement, following U.S. operations launched the previous day in response to the alleged Iranian attack on the commercial vessel M/V Ever Lovely, Tehran was given an opportunity to comply with the ceasefire. However, Iranian forces allegedly launched a one-way drone attack in the morning against the Panama-flagged tanker M/T Kiku, which was carrying more than two million barrels of crude oil while transiting near the Strait of Hormuz.
The statement added that, in response to attacks against commercial shipping, U.S. forces targeted Iranian military surveillance infrastructure, communications systems, air defense assets, drone storage facilities, and naval mine-laying capabilities.
CENTCOM emphasized that commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz continues uninterrupted and that U.S. forces remain deployed in the region and prepared to respond to any potential threats.
