Death toll rises to 10 at munitions plant hit by Ukraine
Moscow, October 23 (Hibya) – The number of people killed in explosions near the Plastmass military facility on the outskirts of Chelyabinsk, which was struck by Ukraine yesterday, has risen to ten. The facility reportedly produced ammunition for artillery systems, tanks, and naval guns with calibers ranging from 76 to 152 mm.
Chelyabinsk Region Governor Alexey Texler said on Telegram: “Five people have been hospitalized. Their condition is stable but serious. Two patients were taken to a burn center, two to Regional Clinical Hospital No. 1, and one will remain at Kopeysk City Hospital until transfer.”
Pro-Russian Telegram channels, including Shot, claimed that the Chelyabinsk region was attacked by a drone and that Russian air defenses were disabled during the explosions.
The facility, located about 1,800 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, is known as one of Russia’s most important producers of conventional artillery ammunition.
Ukrainian drones had previously carried out strikes deep inside Russia, hitting two key industrial targets: a defense-related mechanical plant in Mordovia and a major oil complex in Dagestan.
