Democrat Abigail Spanberger to Become Virginia’s First Female Governor
New York, November 5 (Hibya) – In the United States, following Tuesday’s elections, Democrat Abigail Spanberger is projected to win the Virginia gubernatorial race after a closely watched contest that her party hopes signals a national trend.
Spanberger, a former congresswoman and CIA officer, defeated the state’s Republican Lieutenant Governor, Winsome Earle-Sears.
Virginia’s leadership often alternates between Democrats and Republicans, meaning the result could serve as an indicator of voter sentiment ahead of next year’s midterm elections.
Democrats also won the gubernatorial race in New Jersey and another race in New York, where Zohran Mamdani was elected the city’s first Muslim mayor.
