Drone Reports Twice Shut Down Brussels Airport: Flights Resume
Brussels, November 5 (Hibya) – Air traffic at Brussels Airport resumed for the second time on Tuesday around 11:15 p.m., after flights had been halted twice the previous night due to multiple reports of drones spotted near the airport.
Flights operated by airlines such as Air Malta and Emirates resumed late Tuesday evening, though several flights had been canceled earlier due to drone reports.
According to air traffic controller Skeyes, after several drones were detected in the airport’s airspace, flights to and from Brussels Airport were temporarily suspended—first between 8:00–9:30 p.m., and then again between 10:00–11:15 p.m.
According to Brussels Airport, the incidents led to the cancellation of 28 flights: 12 departures and 16 arrivals. However, the airport could not provide further details about flights diverted around 10:30 p.m. Several aircraft were redirected to other airports, including Maastricht and even Schiphol (Amsterdam).
No drones were observed at Charleroi Airport, but air traffic above it was also temporarily halted for about 20 minutes as a precautionary measure.
The European air traffic control organization Eurocontrol also reported disruptions at the regional airports of Antwerp, Ostend, Liège, and Charleroi.
