EU Commissioner Lahbib highlights violence against women
Brussels, 21 November (Hibya) – European Union Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib, spoke at the Italian Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry on Femicide and Gender-Based Violence.
European Commissioner Hadja Lahbib drew attention to violence against women during her speech before the Italian Parliamentary Commission investigating femicide and gender-based violence.
“Home should be the safest place in the world. Unfortunately, for too many people, it is the most dangerous,” Lahbib said, emphasizing that gender-based violence is a deep-rooted problem that shakes the very structure of society.
She stated that during the session she received information about initiatives being carried out in Italy on this issue and expressed encouragement at the steps taken to combat femicide and gender-based violence.
Lahbib stressed the need for a stronger, more coordinated and determined fight across Europe against this social problem, which she described as a “poison”.
