Four European leaders head to Kyiv
London, May 10 (Hibya) – The leaders of the UK, France, Germany, and Poland are heading to Kyiv on Saturday for a symbolic visit, one day after Vladimir Putin’s military parade in Red Square.
The visit comes after a US intelligence warning of a major aerial attack against Ukraine.
Downing Street said late Friday that Keir Starmer, Emmanuel Macron, Friedrich Merz, and Donald Tusk are expected to arrive in Kyiv early Saturday to meet President Volodymyr Zelensky and show support for Ukraine.
In a joint statement, the four leaders said: “As leaders of France, Germany, Poland, and the United Kingdom, we will stand in Kyiv in solidarity with Ukraine against Russia’s barbaric and illegal full-scale invasion.”
During the visit, the four European leaders will reiterate calls for an unconditional 30-day ceasefire. Donald Trump and the US administration said it could be the first step toward a sustainable peace agreement. Ukraine has said it is ready to implement it, but Russia has so far refused.
However, as the leaders were already en route to Ukraine, the US Embassy in Kyiv issued a public warning late Friday night, stating it had intelligence about a “potentially significant aerial attack” that could occur at any time in the coming days. No further details were provided.
