Guterres: Societies face the risk of collapse under racism
New York, January 18 (Hibya) – United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres warned against the rising tide of racism, religious bigotry and xenophobia worldwide.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres made remarks on the global rise of ideological divisions and hate speech.
Stating that the social fabric of societies is under threat, Guterres said the solution lies in building inclusive communities.
Referring to the current global situation, Guterres said: “Across the world, we see the risk of societies collapsing under the weight of racism, nationalist xenophobia and religious bigotry. It is not enough to condemn these impulses ideologically.”
Calling for stronger social belonging, he added: “We must build communities where everyone’s identity is respected, where everyone feels they belong, and where people are bound together by shared civic values.”
