Lazzarini criticizes ban on international journalists entering Gaza
New York, June 6 (Hibya) – Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), stated that for 20 months since the war began, Israeli authorities have banned international journalists from entering Gaza.
Lazzarini emphasized that such a practice is unprecedented in any other modern conflict and that the ban prevents accurate reporting of the truth and events.
He said the situation fuels misinformation, deepens social polarization, and drives people apart. Lazzarini stressed that international journalists should be allowed to report independently from Gaza and support their Palestinian colleagues who work under immense sacrifice.
He also noted that around 200 journalists have been killed since the start of the war and called for the immediate lifting of the international media ban on Gaza.
