Lazzarini: Israel forcibly entered six UNRWA schools in East Jerusalem
New York, April 8 (Hibya) – UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini reported that Israeli officials, accompanied by Israeli Security Forces, forcibly entered six UNRWA schools in East Jerusalem.
Lazzarini stated, “This morning, Israeli officials from the Jerusalem Municipality, accompanied by Israeli Security Forces, forcibly entered six UNRWA schools in East Jerusalem. They issued closure orders valid for 30 days.”
Reminding that the UNRWA schools in occupied East Jerusalem provide education for Palestinian refugee children, Philippe Lazzarini added, “Around 800 boys and girls will be directly affected by these closure orders and may lose the chance to complete the school year. UNRWA schools are protected by the privileges and immunities of the United Nations. Today’s unauthorized entries and the issuance of closure orders violate these protections and represent a breach of Israel’s obligations under international law.”
