Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Meloni stated that during the meeting she reiterated the need to strengthen the ceasefire, stabilize Gaza, begin reconstruction, and move swiftly toward the full implementation of President Donald Trump’s Peace Plan.

In her statement, Meloni said:

"I also wanted to emphasize Italy’s strong and ongoing commitment both to humanitarian aid for civilians (through the ‘Food for Gaza’ initiative, medical evacuations, and the ‘university corridor’) and to police training and the reform process of the Palestinian Authority.

Finally, while reiterating the need to work toward a lasting political solution based on the two-state vision, I confirmed that the Italian government is working on a humanitarian aid and reconstruction package to be presented at the Gaza Conference planned by Egypt, based on the priorities identified by the Palestinian Authority."
