Palestine launches a campaign against the law proposing execution of detainees
Ramallah, 17 November (Hibya) – The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with prisoner and human rights institutions, has launched a national campaign against the escalating crimes of the occupation forces and their dangerous laws.
According to a statement issued by the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a broad meeting was held under the chairmanship of Ambassador Dr. Omar Avdullah, the political affairs official, with the participation of the Chairman of the Prisoners and Detainees Institution, Raed Abu Hamis, and the Chairman of the Prisoners’ Club, Abdullah Zughari. Many institutions active in the field of detainees and human rights attended the meeting.
During the meeting, hundreds of documents and testimonies were presented regarding systematic violations against detainees, including torture, humiliation, starvation, slow killing, field executions of dozens of detainees in Gaza, sexual assaults, and the treatment of martyrs’ bodies. It was emphasized that these documents constitute concrete evidence of the violations detainees experience in detention centers.
The meeting concluded with a decision to launch a nationwide campaign to address these violations. The campaign will involve coordinated work among official institutions, civil society, and human rights organizations, carried out politically, legally, diplomatically, and through the media on both local and international levels.
As part of the campaign, appeals will be submitted to the UN Human Rights Council, international courts, and justice organizations to ensure accountability for those responsible for the occupation forces’ crimes against detainees and the drafting of such laws.
