Petro criticizes human rights during the Uribe era
Bogota, April 22, 2026 (Hibya) – Colombian President Gustavo Petro claimed that there was an alliance between the state and paramilitary groups during the presidency of former President Alvaro Uribe.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro made statements regarding the period of former President Alvaro Uribe.
Referring to that period, Petro said: “During the Uribe government, there was a real alliance between certain elements of the state and paramilitaries.”
Addressing the events, Petro stated: “This alliance between certain elements of the state and drug-related groups led to the deaths of 6,402 people, with innocent young individuals taken from neighborhoods and killed after being presented as guerrillas.”
Drawing attention to the losses caused by drug groups, Petro said: “The drug alliance killed 200,000 Colombians; they were massacred through torture and terror.”
