Populations of rare bird species are being restored in Bulgaria
Sofia, October 22 (Hibya) – New projects have been launched in the nature parks “Vrachanski Balkan,” “Sinite Kamani” (Blue Rocks), and “Bălgarka” to strengthen the populations of several endangered birds of prey species.
Funded under the 2021–2027 Environment Program, the projects aim to increase the numbers of imperial eagles, black vultures, griffon vultures, and Egyptian vultures.
Over the four-year project, safe and regularly maintained feeding areas are being established to ensure the sustainability of bird populations. Feeding sites have been set up in the Dılgiya Rıt and Kaleşnitsa areas of “Sinite Kamani” Nature Park, near the village of Chelopech in “Vrachanski Balkan,” and around the village of Mrizeçi in “Bălgarka” Park.
The projects also aim to improve the breeding conditions of these birds, minimize human disturbances and poisoning risks, and contribute to the preservation of these species in the wild.
