Russia accuses Ukraine of sending mixed signals about the peace process
Moscow, October 20 (Hibya) – Russia said on Monday that it was engaged in serious discussions with the United States to achieve a peace agreement in Ukraine but accused Kyiv of sending mixed signals that complicate the process.
The Kremlin stated that Budapest was chosen as the venue for a summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump because of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s warm ties with Trump and constructive relations with Putin.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that work on the summit, aimed at finding a solution to the conflict in Ukraine and improving relations between Russia and the United States, had just begun.
Peskov declined to provide further details about the most recent phone call between the two leaders, which took place last week.
The Russian Ministry of Defense also announced on Monday that its forces had taken control of the village of Molodetske in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Monday that he was ready to attend the Trump–Putin summit in Hungary if invited.
