Sa’ar: Netanyahu trial has turned into a grotesque spectacle of law enforcement
Jerusalem, October 11 (Hibya) - Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, commenting on the ongoing trial of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, argued that the case had turned into a "grotesque spectacle of law enforcement" and alleged that serious procedural irregularities had occurred during the investigation.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, commenting on Netanyahu's trial, noted that he had previously called for the proceedings to be brought to an end.
Sa’ar stated, "In recent years, I have repeatedly called for an end to the Netanyahu trial in media interviews, at public conferences, and on social media. I did so in 2023 as well, when I was in the opposition."
Arguing that the trial had long since become a "grotesque spectacle of law enforcement," Sa’ar said, "The turning point in the case was when the judges requested a reconsideration of the bribery charge, which the prosecution stubbornly insisted on ignoring."
Sa’ar said that the bribery charge, based on an unprecedented provision concerning media coverage, had effectively collapsed during the proceedings. He stated, "Today, it emerged that the relevant publications on which this charge was based had never even been reviewed by the person who signed the indictment."
Referring also to the testimony of former Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit at the court hearing, Sa’ar said, "Anyone who listened this morning to even just the beginning of former Attorney General Mandelblit's testimony knows that criminal offenses, including breach of trust, were committed during the investigation by officials in law enforcement and judicial authorities."
Sa’ar stated, "The objective is to uncover the truth about how law enforcement and judicial authorities acted in this case and the complete erosion of public trust in these institutions."
Sa’ar added, "You may support Netanyahu remaining in office or oppose it. But the truth can no longer be ignored."
