Tsahkna: Tourist visas for Russian citizens should be suspended across the EU
Tallinn, October 13 (Hibya) - Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said it was unacceptable for Russian citizens to enjoy unrestricted tourist travel within the Schengen area while Russia continues its attacks on Ukraine, expressing support for a call to suspend tourist visas across the European Union.
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna announced that Estonia had joined Finland's call to suspend the issuance of tourist visas to Russian citizens throughout the European Union (EU).
Noting that Russia continues its attacks on Ukraine, Tsahkna said, "While Russia continues to bomb cities, destroy civilian infrastructure and kill innocent people, it is unacceptable for Russian citizens to be able to travel without restrictions for tourism purposes within the Schengen area."
Emphasizing that visa policy should reflect the seriousness of Russia's aggression, Tsahkna stated that the EU must continue increasing pressure on the Kremlin by using all available tools.
Tsahkna also called on the EU to swiftly adopt the necessary implementing measures to introduce a comprehensive entry ban on Russian combatants.
