UN Message for World Hepatitis Day
New York, July 28 (Hibya) – The United Nations (UN) issued a statement on the occasion of World Hepatitis Day.
In its statement, the UN noted that more than 6,000 people are infected daily with viral hepatitis, the second leading infectious cause of death globally, responsible for 1.3 million deaths each year.
The World Health Organization stated: “Chronic hepatitis B and C are preventable, treatable, and, in the case of hepatitis C, curable. Yet, they silently cause liver damage and cancer. The theme highlights the need to simplify, scale up, and integrate hepatitis services (vaccination, safe injection practices, harm reduction, and especially testing and treatment) into national health systems.”
