WHO: 1.4 billion people reduced tobacco use
Geneva, May 9 (Hibya) – The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that 1.4 billion people have reduced tobacco use and are living healthier lives.
The WHO reported that an additional 431 million people gained access to essential health services without incurring catastrophic costs, thanks to a stronger health workforce, improved hypertension and contraception coverage, and expanded HIV treatment.
According to the WHO statement: “An additional 637 million people are better protected against health emergencies due to stronger pandemic preparedness, early detection, and equitable access to countermeasures. 1.4 billion people — exceeding the target of 1 billion — are living healthier lives due to reduced tobacco use, improved air quality, and expanded access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH).”
