Zelensky: First phase of prisoner exchange agreed in Istanbul has begun
Kyiv, June 9 (Hibya) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the first phase of the prisoner exchange agreed upon in Istanbul has begun.
Zelensky thanked everyone who contributed to the exchange. He also stated that he held a meeting to evaluate the international diplomatic agenda for June. Emphasizing that such contacts should not remain symbolic, he said: “A meeting should either bring us closer to ending the war through diplomacy, or strengthen our defense, operations, or increase pressure on Russia.”
Regarding the situation on the ground, Zelensky said the fiercest fighting continues in the Pokrovsk direction, the Kursk operation zones, and along the Sumy border line. He noted that the Russian army's tactics have not changed and they try to advance while disregarding their losses. However, he stressed that this approach has its limits, and the resistance and counterattacks by Ukrainian forces have slowed their advance.
