Zelensky says Ukraine faces an impossible choice
Stockholm, 22 November (Hibya) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine is facing an impossible choice due to Donald Trump's pressure for a plan to end the war.
Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine is facing one of the most difficult moments in its history after Donald Trump demanded that Kyiv accept a “peace plan” that, within days, would force it — with U.S. backing — to give territory to Russia and make other painful concessions.
Trump confirmed on Friday morning that the upcoming Thursday would be an “acceptable” deadline for Zelensky to sign the agreement. European and Ukrainian officials said the agreement amounts to “surrender.”
In a 10-minute speech outside the presidential palace, Zelensky said his country faces an impossible choice. Ukraine risks losing a major partner — the United States — whose administration appears determined to end the conflict on Moscow’s terms.
Zelensky said that accepting the U.S.–Russia plan could leave Ukraine “without freedom, dignity, and justice.” It would also mean “trusting someone who has attacked us twice,” he added, stressing that Ukraine will never sacrifice its interests or violate its constitution.
Speaking on Fox Radio, Trump said he believed Thursday would be an “appropriate time” for Zelensky to sign the deal and that Ukraine could not prevent Russia’s army from forcibly seizing Donbas territory.
U.S. officials stated that the American president is pursuing an “aggressive timeline” to end the conflict and plans to exert unprecedented pressure on Kyiv.
Trump is also threatening to cut vital intelligence sharing and weapons supplies if Ukraine fails to reach a deal.
