227 people in Bulgaria fined for misuse of emergency hotline
Sofia, October 28 (Hibya) – Bulgaria’s Ministry of Interior announced that the National 112 System Directorate imposed sanctions on 227 individuals who made malicious emergency calls over the past year.
Between October 2024 and October 2025, 227 Bulgarian citizens who made false or “prank” calls to the 112 hotline were sanctioned by the Administrative and Penal Activities Department of the National 112 System Directorate under the Ministry of Interior.
The fines were imposed under the Emergency Call System Act.
The statement noted that 137 individuals were fined between 200 and 1,000 leva for misuse of the line.
“38 people reached settlements for reduced fines. 14 individuals were fined between 2,000 and 5,000 leva for malicious false reports. 30 people were fined 10,000 leva for causing unnecessary mobilization of emergency teams. Eight individuals aged 16–18 received public reprimands. 223 citizens were given written warnings that further violations would result in penalties.”
