ABC announces Trump banned from attending press conference in the UK
London, September 18 (Hibya) - The London bureau of Australia's national broadcaster ABC announced that, following a dispute between its America editor John Lyons and Trump in Washington DC, the corporation was barred from attending Donald Trump’s press conference held this week near London.
According to The Guardian, the Australian broadcaster said its London bureau was informed by Downing Street that its accreditation to attend the press conference had been revoked "for logistical reasons."
On Thursday, prior to the joint press conference, Trump was scheduled to have lunch with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the country residence in Chequers.
An ABC spokesperson told The Guardian: "ABC’s London bureau is still accredited for Chequers, but Downing Street media said that, for logistical reasons, there was no room for them at the joint press conference."
The spokesperson added: "We were given no indication that this was connected to the questions ABC Americas editor John Lyons asked President Trump earlier this week."
Lyons, reporting for Four Corners, asked Trump on Tuesday how much wealthier he had become since January when he returned to the Oval Office for a second term, which provoked the president’s anger.
Trump accused the reporter of "harming Australia" with this line of questioning.
