Yermak: We are grateful to Australia for new measures targeting Russia
Kyiv, September 18 (Hibya) – Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, expressed gratitude to Australia for new measures targeting Russia’s war economy.
Yermak announced that the Australian government decided to reduce the price cap on Russian oil from $60 to $47.60 per barrel, emphasizing Ukraine’s appreciation for this step.
He said that this move would reduce the market value of Russian oil and further shrink energy sales revenues that Russia uses to finance its military-industrial complex.
“In addition, Australia has imposed sanctions on 95 vessels of the so-called ‘shadow fleet’ that Russia uses to circumvent sanctions. In total, more than 150 vessels are now under Australian sanctions. Such evasion mechanisms not only fund Russia’s war but also pose serious environmental and maritime risks.”
Yermak stressed that this decision was made in coordination with the European Union, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, and New Zealand, adding: “This further strengthens the united sanctions coalition that systematically cuts off ‘oxygen’ to Russia’s war machine.”
