Budrys: Pressure on Russia must be increased
Vilnius, August 8 (Hibya) - Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys said the US Senate's approval of sanctions legislation targeting Russia and Iran sends a clear message that the cost of aggression must be increased.
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys commented on the US Senate's overwhelming approval of the 2026 Lindsey O. Graham Russia and Iran Sanctions Act. Budrys said the decision demonstrates that pressure on Russia must be increased until the Kremlin abandons its expansionist ambitions.
Budrys said Russia's war against Ukraine is sustained by revenues that finance attacks, noting that these revenues enable attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure and threaten Europe's security.
Budrys said closing loopholes in sanctions, enforcing existing sanctions and reducing Russia's sources of revenue would contribute to a just and lasting peace, stressing that strong support for Ukraine and broader sanctions must be maintained.
