European Council President Antonio Costa said the European Union (EU) is committed to the global multilateral system centered on the United Nations (UN), adding that multilateral institutions need to be modernized so they can respond more effectively to today's challenges.
Costa said the EU, built on common rules and cooperation beyond national borders, remains firmly committed to the global multilateral system with the UN at its center.
Emphasizing that multilateral institutions need to be renewed to respond effectively to the challenges of our time, Costa said that on the margins of this year's UN General Assembly, the EU, together with Canada and Kenya, will co-sponsor the “Partners for Multilateralism” summit.
Costa noted that the summit could help find common solutions to common problems and promote peace and prosperity for all.
