Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty commented on regional developments, particularly in Sudan and Gaza, at a joint press conference with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in El-Alamein.

Abdelatty said there was intensive cooperation between Türkiye and Egypt regarding Sudan, adding that the two countries were acting with a shared understanding aimed at ensuring the region's security and stability.

Listing the basic principles on Sudan agreed upon with Türkiye, Abdelatty stressed that a ceasefire and an inclusive political solution were essential.

Abdelatty said humanitarian aid must reach all parts of Sudan and that Sudan's national army and state institutions should not be placed on the same footing as any militia force.

Pointing out that a military solution in Sudan was not possible, Abdelatty said diplomatic efforts should continue.

Abdelatty said, “We are making intensive efforts to launch the political process in Sudan. And of course, this will happen after the ceasefire.”

Stating that Egypt continued its contacts with all relevant parties, Abdelatty noted that talks were being held with parties both inside and outside Sudan, while contacts with regional actors were also continuing.

Abdelatty said arms smuggling played an important role in the expansion of the conflict in Sudan, adding that weapons reaching militia groups were increasing tensions.

Abdelatty said, “We are continuing all our efforts to stop the flow of weapons into Sudan and to the militias.”

Abdelatty also said they had held lengthy talks on Gaza and drew attention to the importance of implementing U.S. President Donald Trump's plan.

Emphasizing the second phase of the plan in particular, Abdelatty said there were two main issues at this stage: the handover of weapons and Israel's complete withdrawal from Gaza.

Abdelatty said these two obligations should be fulfilled in a balanced manner, adding, “The second phase is about this: handing over the weapons and Israel's complete withdrawal from Gaza.”

Abdelatty argued that Palestinian armed groups had acted responsibly regarding the handover of weapons, elections and the launch of the political process, and said the Israeli side must also fulfill its obligations set out in Trump's plan.

Abdelatty said Egypt opposed any attempt that would prevent the implementation of the second phase.

Recalling that the first phase of the plan envisaged delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza, allowing 600 trucks to enter each day and ensuring that medical facilities could continue operating, Abdelatty said the obligations in the second phase were also clear.

He said that in this context, Israel must withdraw from Gaza alongside the handover of weapons.

Abdelatty said Egypt had confidence in the United States and President Trump and appreciated the plan Trump had put forward for Gaza.

Abdelatty said, “The peace leadership of the United States, the U.S. leadership and President Trump are things that we appreciate.”

However, stressing that merely putting forward the plan was not enough and that the specified obligations had to be implemented, Abdelatty said pressure should continue on the parties to fulfill their commitments.

Abdelatty said implementing the provisions of the plan and fulfilling the obligations were important for achieving a lasting outcome in Gaza.
