Environmental activists climb onto the roof of a government building in Sweden
Stockholm, January 22 (Hibya) – In Sweden, several activists were detained on Thursday morning following a protest at the Government Buildings. Responsibility for the action was claimed by Reset Wetlands.
According to the police, a woman climbed onto the roof of the Government Buildings without permission on Thursday morning. At the same time, paint was sprayed on the facade of the Ministry of Finance and a poster was hung.
Swedish police spokesperson Susanna Rinaldo said this morning: “This is a protected building, so the person was asked to come down, but she has not yet done so; therefore, we are trying to persuade the woman to come down voluntarily.”
At noon, the police announced that the woman chose to come down and was taken into custody for violating the Protection Act. Four other people suspected of the same offense were also arrested.
The environmental activist organization Restore Wetlands announced in a press release published on its website that it carried out a protest against peat mining (bog coal).
