The leaders of Finland and Norway engaged in joint diplomatic efforts concerning the Russia-Ukraine war and held a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to a statement shared by Finnish President Alexander Stubb on social media, the joint conversation with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre was a continuation of the meeting held in Oslo on October 20. The contact was reportedly prepared in coordination with Ukraine and the United States.
Emphasizing that there is no military solution to the war and that it must end immediately, Stubb pointed out that the conflict directly affects the security of Finland, Norway and Europe as a whole. Stressing the importance of direct negotiations rather than avoiding dialogue, Stubb noted that they conducted the conversation not on behalf of Europe, but as leaders of two neighboring countries, guided by their own principles and perspectives.
In his statement, Stubb reiterated that support for Ukraine remains unwavering, adding that their primary objective is to achieve a just and lasting peace.
