Former Ukrainian Parliament Speaker shot dead in Lviv
Moscow, August 31 (Hibya) – Former Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament Andriy Parubiy was shot dead yesterday in Lviv. Police are searching for the assailant.
A video allegedly showing the attack on Parubiy has circulated online. The footage shows the attacker disguised as a Glovo courier.
Lviv Police Chief Oleksandr Shlyakhovski said the assailant fired about eight shots with a still unidentified weapon. He noted that the murder appeared to be carefully prepared.
Parubiy served as Speaker of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada from 2016 to 2019. In 2013–2014, he played an important role in the Euromaidan movement that led to the ousting of President Viktor Yanukovych.
In later years, Parubiy was a member of former President Petro Poroshenko’s political party, European Solidarity. Until 2004, he was a member of the Social-Nationalist Party of Ukraine, which had close ties to neo-fascist movements. For this reason, opponents and Russian media often accused him of being a Nazi.
