Former U.S. presidents Obama and Clinton call on Americans to defend their values
Washington, Jan. 26 (Hibya) – Former United States presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton called on Americans to defend their values following the killing of Alex Pretti by a federal agent.
Former Democratic presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton reacted to the killing of 37-year-old nurse Alex Pretti, who was shot dead by ICE agents in Minneapolis; this marked the second person killed by federal immigration officers in the city this month.
In a statement released on Sunday, Obama and his wife Michelle described the killing of Alex Pretti as a “heartbreaking tragedy” and “a warning to every American, regardless of party affiliation, that our fundamental values as a nation are increasingly under attack.”
The statement said that people across the country have been rightly angered for weeks by the fact that masked ICE officers and other federal agents act with impunity and employ tactics that appear designed to intimidate, harass, provoke, and endanger the residents of a major American city.
Bill Clinton also joined the call in a post on X, saying the United States is facing a historic moment that will shape the country for years to come, and urging Americans to raise their voices and “show that our nation still belongs to the people.”
