Fraser: We are working to keep our children safe
Ottawa, December 10 (Hibya) – Canada’s Minister of Justice, Sean Fraser, made a statement regarding the Victims Protection Act. Fraser said that the law will ensure that those who commit crimes against children remain in prison.
Minister Fraser stated that they are working to combat gender-based violence and to keep children safe.
Explaining that the Victims Protection Act will recognize femicide in the criminal code, Fraser said: “It will criminalize coercive and controlling behaviours, which are often observed before intimate partner violence occurs.”
Fraser also noted that the law will ensure that offenders who commit crimes against children remain behind bars, adding: “We call on all parties to work with us to pass this Bill in the House of Commons, to protect our children, and to make our communities safer for those who face violence.”
