Ghebreyesus: The climate crisis remains an existential threat
Geneva, October 20 (Hibya) – World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that the climate crisis remains an existential threat, emphasizing the importance of the Regional Implementation Plan.
Ghebreyesus noted that many countries in the WHO Western Pacific region have taken measures against tobacco and noncommunicable diseases, protected girls from cervical cancer, expanded treatment for neglected tropical diseases, taken steps against antimicrobial resistance, and strengthened their emergency preparedness and response capacities.
He added, “The climate crisis continues to be an existential threat; therefore, the Regional Implementation Plan for climate change and health system safety and resilience is an important step, especially for small island states.”
