Tensions spilled onto the national stage Sunday morning, as Minnesota Governor Noem urged officials to “grow up” after complaints that federal agencies were not cooperating with state and local authorities in the investigation into Good’s killing.

Noem targeted Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, accusing them of politicizing the incident and encouraging “destruction” and “violence” in the city.

Meanwhile, anti-ICE protests continued nationwide over the weekend. Anger grew after Good’s death, and more than a thousand demonstrations were planned across the United States to protest the Trump administration’s intensified immigration enforcement in Minneapolis and elsewhere.

The large Twin Cities protest on Saturday took many forms throughout the day and began at Powderhorn Park, a historic site for demonstrations and the main gathering point during the 2020 George Floyd protests. After marching through a Minneapolis neighborhood, thousands gathered on the street where Good was fatally shot.

At this site, which has become a focal point for heated debates over the Trump administration’s immigration policy, Minnesota residents shared hot drinks and blankets while chanting for justice in their state.

On the other side of the country, in Los Angeles, a police helicopter’s searchlight was directed at protesters on Alameda Street carrying inverted American flags and handmade anti-ICE posters.

Indivisible, a coalition member group organizing the protests, said in a Facebook post on Saturday, accompanied by images from demonstrations in various cities: “The response to ICE’s horrific killing of Renee Nicole Good is loud, peaceful, and inevitable.”
